Volunteer and Helpline Manager

We are looking for a skilled Volunteer and Helpline Manager to join our small team of diverse professionals. In this position, you will be responsible for recruiting, and managing more than 200 volunteers.  In addition, you will manage our Wildlife Helpline, educating the public on how they can help, and live in harmony with local wildlife.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Source and recruit volunteers
  • Develop and implement volunteer training and information sessions
  • Manage volunteer communication, schedules and activities
  • Create and maintain a healthy working environment for volunteers
  • Keep and manage records of volunteers’ information and work
  • Evaluate volunteers’ work
  • Create content for newsletters, other publications, and social media
  • Coordinate with other department heads on events and other volunteer needs
  • Develop, implement, and maintain Helpline content, protocols and procedures
  • Supervise Helpline interns and volunteers, and personally field calls, when needed
  • Coordinate emergency transportation and rescue, sometimes after hours
  • Work within established budgets

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Two years experience as Volunteer Coordinator or similar role
  • Solid knowledge of native Alberta wildlife species natural history
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and solid computer skills
  • Experience using HR and recruiting tools
  • Team player
  • Good time-management skills
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills
  • Helpline and/or customer service experience is a bonus
  • Formal education in communications or wildlife related field is preferred

Additional Information

40 hrs/wk, plus some evenings and weekends

$19/hr plus benefits
