Opportunity: Helpline Manager

This front-line communications position reports to the Executive Director, and is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of WILDNorth’s Wildlife Helpline and social media accounts. The incumbent will ensure that the public receives constructive advice about wildlife concerns, and how to deal with injured and orphaned wild animals, while representing WILDNorth in a professional manner. The Helpline Manager will supervise Helpline interns and volunteers, and will personally field calls, when necessary. Not only will they be over-seeing the 13,000+ phone calls that we receive each year and our multiple social media accounts, but they will admit wildlife patients and connect them with our WILDCare Staff, and will be responsible for coordinating emergency transportation and rescues, sometimes after hours. Some additional administrative tasks may be required. This position is based out of our Edmonton Wildlife Hospital location.

The applicant must possess/demonstrate:

  • Post secondary education, in a wildlife related field, is preferred
  • Helpline experience is preferred
  • Ability to identify, and handle, most native Alberta mammals and birds and must demonstrate excellent knowledge in the natural history of Alberta wildlife
  • Exemplary communication, organizational, and staff management skills
  • Considerable social media experience
  • Familiarity with data bases and entry
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays, when needed
  • Current vaccinations for tetanus, rabies, and covid-19

Compensation: Annual salary of $40,000, plus benefits
